Flipcharts are used for a wide variety of uses and are a simple and effective way to communicate and present information in the office or classroom.

• What is a flipchart?

A flipchart normally comes in pad form and in most cases is A1 in size 594x841mm. The pads are usually 40 leaves the most common types are plain, with rulings (literacy flipchart) or gridded (numeracy flipchart) Sometimes a flipchart pad is described as flipchart paper

• What is a flipchart easel?

A flipchart easel is a stand that you can hang the flipchart pad onto making it easy to present information. A flipchart easel is also called a flipchart stand or a flipchart board. A standard flipchart easel usually has tripod legs that can be folded down when not in use so it can be stored easily. Many flipchart easels have wheels or castors on the bottom so it can easliy be transported around the office or classroom without the need to lift it up.

• Is the flipchart easel also a whiteboard?

Many of the flipchart easels backboard also double up as a whiteboard making it dual purpose

• Are flipchart easels magnetic?

Some flipchart easels have a magnetic surface so it can easily be used to display notices 

• Are all flipchart pads a standard size?

The majority of flipchart pads are a standard A1 size. Most of the A1 flipchart pads have punched holes that will fit the majority of flipchart easels available on the market 

• Do I need a flipchart easel to use a flipchart pad?

You will need a flipchart easel to use standard A1 flipchart pads. However you can purchase self adhesive flipchart pads. These have a low-tack adhesive strip across the back of each sheet which means you can stick the sheet to walls, doors etc. The sheet is also repositionable. However self adhesive flipchart pads are more expensive, so if you are using a flipchart regularly it will be more cost effective to purchase an easel and standard flipchart pads

Alternatively you can purchase a table top flipchart easel which tend to be smaller in size. These are ideal for meetings were space is restricted. They are also very mobile so are ideal for sales reps on the move

• Do I need to use a particular marker on a flipchart pad?

Yes you will need to purchase a flipchart marker that are resistant to bleed-through on flipchart paper. However here is my top tip! Flipchart markers are exactly the same as whiteboard markers, so if you already have a drywipe marker handy there is no need to purchase a flipchart marker

A flipchart pad and a flipchart easel have a wide variety of uses. They are ideal for use in the school, classroom and education. They are a cost effective way to guide students and pupils through topics or ideas. Teachers can quickly jot down pupils ideas and thoughts to encourage group discussions.
