Choosing the right tables and chairs for your classroom

Choosing the right classroom tables and classroom chairs

Selecting the right products for your classroom furniture can sometimes be a daunting task

What height do I need? What size tables to I need? What colour edging do I need? and on and on it goes

In this guide we try and help you understand the world of classroom tables and chairs

  • The first thing to get right is the height of the tables and chairs

It is very important that the pupils or students are sat at the right height tables with the matching height chairs, below is a height guide working from nursery aged children right the way through to adult sized tables and chairs

Selecting the correct sized height of tables and chairs ensures:

  • Students attention span is maintained for the full school day
  • Promotion of good posture
  • Students are comfortable throughout the school day

Top tip if you are purchasing tables with trays and runners fitted underneath: The general rule is that you will need to move up height size when having tables with trays, this is because the leg room will be reduced under the table meaning the height of the chair will be too high

In addition to this you can have standard fully welded tables, crushed bent tables or premium round leg tables

Fully welded table:

Crushed bent table:

Premium classroom table:

When you have decided the height of the tables there are other choices that need to made:

  • Table top colour: There is a wide selection of table top colours
  • Edging colours: The standard edging for classroom tables is polished MDF but PU edging is very popular. PU edging is slightly more expensive but is much more durable
  • Metal frame colours: The most popular eding is speckled grey or charcoal but for a little extra cost you can select from a wide range of coloured frames

The next choice that needs to be made is the style & colour of the classroom chair:

When it comes to classroom chairs there is quite a selection to choose from. You can have a traditional metal framed school chair which is in all honesty still the cheapest option or you can have a one piece fully moulded plastic chair. These tend to be a little more expensive but most of these have a lifetime guarantee. Or you can have a four legged chair that is a little more modern looking such as the NP or ST classroom chairs

Have I covered everything? Probably not! The above are just the standard tables and chairs that you find in many classrooms up and down the country, but the choice in all honesty is extensive and can be quite confusing

There are semi circular tables, trapezoidal tables, circular tables, folding tables, adjustable height tables and so on and so on.

The best advice I can give you is to do your homework (parden the pun) or get in touch with an expert that can give you the help and guidance you need

At Hetherington Office Supplies we ensure you get the right school tables and school chairs at the right height, the right colour, the right edging and just as importantly at the right price
